"An Ode to Starting Somewhere" by Peyton Johnson

A tender and whimsical poem written by one of our co-editors Peyton Johnson! We are so honored that Peyton has not only shared an original poem that fits perfectly with our theme of "start somewhere", but she has also joined the Awkward Skate Magazine team!

How joyous it is to start.

I love the word joyous.

How joyous it is to be me.

How joyous it is to see you.

How joyous is it to feel the breeze on my neck and skin and face?

How joyous.

Joyous indeed.

How joyous is it to tell yourself you’re doing to do something?

Starting with caution but also feeling that leave with the wind.

You look down.

You’re slow without wheels, which is no fun.

You can’t believe this is happening.

Joy.

Difference.

You pay no mind to people around you unless you have to dodge them.

You’re going too fast for them to see you or your figure.

Freedom.

Joy.

Wind.

And to think you weren’t going to do this today.
Joy.
Starting.

Thank you Peyton for your beautiful poem and contribution to the magazine. It's been such a pleasure working with you!
